happy sabbath ♥

thinking of all the precious moments
and tender mercies
that are granted each and everyday,
even our hardest days,
the ones we feel so alone,
and as if we have nothing.
i know we have something;
maybe hard to see, hard to find,
but there...
wishing you all the love and peace you
desire to have a happy sabbath.

Communion

i found a poem at grandpas house

it was passed to grandma
from great-grandma
[her mother]
in 1963

Communion

"I am small tonight,

and heaven is far,

only God and I,

and the evening star---

the perfumed breath,

from the heart of a rose,

whispers to me

'He cares! He knows!' "

i miss grandma...

i think i will eat some more

rocky road ice scream...

with grandma in mind tonight.

Silent Night, Holy Beard - 33rd Ward Christmas Nativity

Jeremy, and an angel came upon him....such a sweet face.

i eye spy with my little eye...sam's nose [he is the middle wiseman]
can you see clarissa....under the beard?

clarissa, jeremy, austin, danielle

First thing first, this was Clarissa's last year in the Nativity.

I will never forget the year that we painted the Nativity scenery on large cardboard pieces from the old Granite Furniture store in Sugarhouse. I never would have thought that 11 years later the primary kids would still be using it; nor that I would have a daughter turning twelve, and in her last Primary Nativity. Time flies.

Friday night was the ward Christmas Party. The children participated, yet again, in the reading of the Christmas story from the scriptures.

Clarissa had been asked to be a Wiseman, not enough boys, and definitely NOT what she anticipated being. PLAYING A BOY, what were these leaders thinking...

When time came for the program the girl who was asked to be Mary had not shown up. Clarissa was then asked to be Mary.

My sweet Clarissa, beaming from ear to ear...she wasn't going to have to be the Wiseman. But then, she looked over at Danielle. Danielle looking at Clarissa, Danielle in the pretty angel costume. Danielle wanted SOOO badly to be Mary. Clarissa has been Mary once before, my last year as Primary President [I finally gave in, and let my daughter be Mary, after all her years of longing, and me choosing others to be Mary.]

Clarissa knew that look, the look in Danielle's eyes. She said, "Danielle, do you want to be Mary?" Quiet Danielle, barely able to even nod yes. So I said, "Danielle, You want to be Mary, don't you?" "Yes." Again, I could barely hear her.

So Clarissa began to take off the costume for Mary, and trade Danielle for the Angel costume. The pretty angel costume. Not a bad trade. At least it wasn't the Wiseman.

BUT THEN...the primary leaders said, "OH CLARISSA, not an angel. WE NEED A WISEMAN."

I thought Clarissa would start to cry right then and there. She was back to being a BOY. YUCK. Clarissa has enough of boys, just surviving childhood with THREE brothers.

But, she put on the wiseman costume. Little did I know until the curtain rose that they had BEARDS for the wiseman. So humiliating. Poor Clarissa, who kept looking out at me during the entire program, with yearning eyes. Pleading MOM SAVE ME. And me, who could not be reverent for even a minute because I was laughing so hard at Sam; SAM, who you can barely even see his nose through the costume.

So take another look at the pictures...you thought Jeremy was the only one with the silliness. And take another look at Mary. Mary, who was meek, and Joseph who was mild. And know that this, the BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, was the one where my little daughter, sat, in a Beard, looking at precious Mary, holding her baby, and knowing that this IS what Christmas is.

...Giving what you want most right now [to be a GIRL in the program], for what you want most [to know that you gave up something you wanted for someone else.]

Love and hugs to Clarissa♥
 And it truly was
the BEST. Christmas. Pageant. EVER.

ahhhh, life is.

i don't know if it is because of the time i spent in primary,
or if it was the birth of each of my children,
or if it is because i need my savior so much right now,
but this picture is absolutely one of my favorite
pictures of all time of Him.

Him,
the one who came
born to adversity
but willing
and still willing.
He,
who looks to his mother
with trust to love
to his father
to train and teach
Him,
who attends
to his Fathers
business.
He,
who smiles
in the manger
at his mother
with love
adoring her sacrifice
for him.
reminding me
that all will be well.
this life is good.
ahhh, life is.

the artist who created this was inspired
the more that i draw i learn that nothing comes but from
within that which our Father already ordained us to be,
to become, all that he desires of us.

i see this picture, and the beauty of his birth.
and the peace this season can bring.
no matter our circumstances.

yes, i am giving in to the holidays.
they will come, even if in my grumpiness i Grinch them away.
they are coming
so, as grandpa always reminds me:
come what may,
and love it.

endure to the end?

"The basic requirements for enduring to the end include knowing who we are, children of God with a desire to return to His presence after mortality; understanding the purpose of life, to endure to the end and obtain eternal life; and living obediently with a desire and a determination to endure all things, having eternal vision. Eternal vision allows us to overcome opposition in our temporal state and, ultimately, achieve the promised rewards and blessings of eternal life."

Merry Christmas!

Hope this finds you enjoying the beginning of the holidays.
I, for one, am having a harder time this year
getting my Christmas Spirit out.
But, I decided to borrow some cheer
from some kind friends out there,
and share them here with you who care.
Thanks for being my family.

I don't say that much, thanks,
and sometimes we don't see much of each other,
but I love knowing you are there,
and that you and yours
and me and mine,
are tied together in unity
by some pretty cool people
who are grand and great!
Yes, we are family.
Sometimes sad, mad,
often glad, but mainly hopeful
for families can be together forever.
So here, or there, we better
get used to one another.

Okay, not a poem,
not even a rambling.
Just a rhetoric way of saying,
I hope you find your Christmas Cheer.

Saving my favorite Christmas picture for Sunday!
So come back!!! And Merry Christmas.

we interrupt this TAG to bring you this:

[thinking of unknown facts, worst habits and things I probably shouldn't share.]

Sam came home asking what camel toe is.

I won't go into the WAY TO LONG explanation that Brian gave him, or the fact that he has been asking for a month, and Brian has been putting it off; or the advice Brian was given at work on how to tell his son.

Also, you DON'T want to see the pictures he drew [quick explaination, they were all of animals feet, up to the camels foot/toe, and then a few of...well go ahead, imagine]!

...best yet, you don't want to visualize Brian pulling his pants up really high to give him an effective, Sam will never be the same, example of it.

Brian, at near the end of this fabulous lesson in words we wish our kids never had to understand, explained that camel toe is like a sign.

LIKE A SIGN?

Follow me:

He goes on to say, like the loser sign; is the L.

Which brings us to things our kids should never learn from us:

Jeremy: Oh, I know dad, you mean like when mom holds her three fingers up and says, "Read between the lines." You know how if you take away these two fingers it means......

Dad interrupting him: (how he can respond without busting up is beyond me), Yes, Jeremy, exactly. And again, NOT one of the things that you should do just because OTHER PEOPLE (including your MOTHER) do it.
